Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park

Step into the past at Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, a remarkable ancient Native American site that tells the story of the Muscogee (Creek) people’s ancestral homeland and rich heritage.

From the site’s first people more than 10,000 years ago, to the Mississippian period of the Moundbuilders, the park offers a glimpse into millennia of history. You’ll be awed by the impressive earthworks that date back about 1,000 years. At the Visitor Center, immerse yourself in history through engaging exhibits, a short film, and valuable trail information. Visit the museum store for unique souvenirs!

The park features seven earthen mounds and miles of scenic trails winding through grassy fields, forests, and wetlands teeming with wildlife. Museum of Aviation

The Museum of Aviation is the second-largest museum in the United States Air Force and the fourth-most visited museum in the Department of Defense.

The Museum houses over 85 historic U.S. Air Force aircraft, missiles, cockpits, and award-winning exhibits. The most popular exhibits include the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers, the 483rd Bomb Group, the story of WWII Ace Brig. Gen. Robert L. Scott, the Korean War, the Tuskegee Airmen, and the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Air Invasion of Normandy.

The Museum’s most notable aircraft include the SR-71A Blackbird, (the fastest plane in the world), the P-40N Warhawk, F-4D Phantom II, B-29B Superfortress, and many more. The Museum of Aviation is also restoring a B-17G Flying Fortress. This restoration project will take another 3-5 years.

The Museum of Aviation is a proud partner in the new Georgia World War II Heritage Trail. Launched in February 2021, the Trail is made up of ten sites across the state, which together provide a new experience for visitors, families, and groups. Southern states were critical to the war effort during World War II (1941-1945), and none more so than Georgia. Over 300,000 Georgians served in the military, and thousands of civilians worked in rapidly expanding defense industries. (Co-located at the Museum of Aviation is another partner of the Georgia World War II Heritage Trail named the Georgia Aviation Hall of Fame which is located in the Century of Flight Hangar. More information about the Hall of Fame can be found on their page on Explore Georgia.)
